We are working now to make the tracks from our debut album, "Christmas" available in downloadable format as well. They'll also all be available on iTunes in the very near future.

Tempe Healing Fields Freedom Concert - Sept 10th

Come see us perform at the 1st Annual Tempe Healing Fields Freedom Concert, on September 10th at 6:30pm at Tempe Beach Park.MC6 will be headlining the show that also features local vocalist Tiffany Mortensen as well as a couple of youth choirs from the Tempe School District. Each year, the City of Tempe holds the Tempe Healing Fields as a memorial to the anniversary of the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks. Thousands of flags are posted in a field next to the river, each representing a person that lost their life in the attacks. Tagged to each flag is information about that person and their life. This is a very moving memorial, and will prove to be a touching experience for all.

So, please come down to Tempe to take in the memorial and to hear some great American music as a tribute to the fallen. We hope to see you there.

January with MC6

We have had a busy January. At the beginning of the month we had a fun show in Tucson at Voyager RV Resort. The crowd was a lot of fun and full of energy. A funny thing happened on the way home from the show when we stopped at Texas Roadhouse for a post-show meal. It came up in conversation with our waitress that we sing, and she bribed us to sing her a song by promising to discount our meal. We sang “I’m Yours” to a handful of the staff, including her manager. Thank you Texas Roadhouse for taking 25% off our bill!

A few days later we took the challenge to sing for 6 hours at Glendale’s Glitter and Glow Block Party. This was a huge event with an estimated 80,000 people walking through the streets enjoying rides, food, and music. MC6 was on stage from 4 until 10 doing 45 minute sets each hour. At the end of the evening, our voices were worn out, but we had a great time and enjoyed the evening and meeting people from all over the country.

What’s in store next? After a month away, we are returning this week to the studio to work on “Lion Sleeps” and “So Much in Love.” So far, we have 6 songs recorded, but we would like another 10.

SO LONG, JEREMY
It is with heavy heart that we announce that our good friend and 1st tenor, Jeremy Ehmke, has left MC6 to pursue new adventures with his family in Idaho. His smooth high tenor melodies will be sorely missed, but more than that, we will miss HIM as a friend and brother-in-arms. We're happy for him, though, as he opens this new chapter in his life. We wish for him and his family the greatest of success and happiness in their new home. Additionally, if there are any vocal groups in the Boise area looking for a strong high tenor, Jeremy comes HIGHLY recommended - you simply will not find a better team player and all-around good guy than Jeremy!

HELLO, RICK
And, so, given the nature of a six-part singing group, if we are to continue we must plug the gaping hole in our lineup left by departing Jeremy. Jeremy was so kind, even, to recommend hs replacement, and after some auditioning, we'd like to announce that Rick Andreasen will immediately be stepping into the spotlight as our new 1st tenor! Rick brings an injection of energy and enthusiasm to MC6, not to mention the skills of a licensed chiropractor. He's got an awesome voice and incredible range - ready for "The Lion Sleeps"? - and we're thrilled to welcome him to the group. As of right now, his debut performance will be on Sept. 10th at the Mesa Sister Cites concert at the Mesa Arts Center. So, come out to the show and meet our new addition.

UPDATE: We're currently in the studio working on album #2! This one will be a true doo-wop album featuring favorites like "Blue Moon", "Teenager In Love" and "Come Go With Me". These songs are so much fun, and we can't wait to finish it and make it available to our fans. More news on this later, so stay tuned!

We are so excited to announce that we have been invited to join Marvin Goldstein, Kirby Heyborne, and Sarah Morgann on stage at the Mesa Arts Center, on Wednesday, December 16th, for their "You're All I Want For Christmas" variety show! We are thrilled to announce that we have been invited to perform on December 16th on the Sonoran Living Live morning talk show that is filmed at ABC-15 KNXV Studios and broadcast throughout Arizona!

Sonoran Living Live started in September 2000 and is a morning talk show about living the good life in Arizona, featuring Stephanie Sandoval as host.

We think this will be a lot of fun, and we can't wait to showcase our tunes on the local airwaves. Our segment will likely air on December 23rd, so set your TiVo's!

Christmas-time again

Wow! Is it that time of year again already? It seems like we just took down the Christmas lights and stowed the tree, and here we are on the cusp of the holiday season once more!

We of MC6 absolutely LOVE the Christmas season, so much, in fact, that we have a tendency to practice our Christmas songs year-round! We are jazzed about the upcoming season and hope you take a moment to come see us perform at one of our various shows in December.

Constitution Week show

We're very excited to be a part of the upcoming Constitution Week Fair being sponsored by the City of Gilbert. Festivities run throughout the week, and our show will be at the fair itself on Saturday, Sept 19th from 6-9pm. Here's the flyer for the event:

A variety of musical, dance, magic, and comedy acts will be performing on two stages, plus there will be tons of great food, games, storytelling, and even a fireworks display. We'll be doing a 30 minute set featuring many of our favorites as well as a couple of new songs that we've prepared specifically for this event.

So, come on out and support Constitution Week as we celebrate the anniversary of the adoption of our nation's Constitution.

Mesa Does Debbie

This sounds worse than it was! Actually, it was a lot of fun! We sang a doo-wop set for Deb Duvall at her retirement party/roast last Friday night at the Mesa Hilton, and it truly was a blast.

It was a classy black-tie affair, although we went with more of a "greaser" look to fit in with our doo-wop set for the night.

At one point Deb Duvall joined us on stage and sang "In the Still of the Night" duet-style with Paul.

We ended the show with a proper "roasting" send-off of "Since You've Been Gone" (not the Kelly Clarkson version - think Weird Al!)

All-in-all, a fun show, and a great crowd. Props to Jim McAllister, our sound engineer (foreground), for an excellent audio set-up and mix.

Congrats to Dr. Duvall on her retirement. We wish her well in this next chapter of her life.

Mesa Does Debbie

Her favorite music style is doo-wop, so we have been hired to give her and her friends / colleagues a throw-back show tomorrow night at the Mesa Hilton. Now, don't tell her - it's a surprise! OK, admittedly, this is showing up a little late, but we just got the pictures back from the photographer, and that reminded us that we should probably write about the event. So...

We were invited to entertain at a Valentine's Day party at Word of Faith Family Church, in Chandler, and it was a fabulous show. We have performed twice for them now, and both times we were blown away by the awesome crowd! So gracious and appreciative...and lively, and FUN! Probably one of our favorite places to perform - the audience really makes a difference. Plus, their sound system rocks!

We were asked to prepare a mix of "love songs" for this show, it being a Valentine's party and all, so we had to hustle and add a couple of new songs to our repertoire. Given that, there were 2 songs we did that night that we had never performed before. For one of them (So Much In Love), we hammered out the ending about 10 minutes before going on stage!

Dan came up with a fun way to introduce a couple of our less-traditional love songs by identifying the "Steps to Recovery" from a bad breakup or broken heart (I Go To Pieces and Since You've Been Gone). The crowd really got a kick out of that, and I think we'll expand on that for future shows.

Jackson rocked the house as usual with his vocal percussion grooves, especially on The Lion Sleeps, and when we wrapped up the show, the crowd wanted more. Since we had exhausted our repertoire of love songs, we went into our doo-wop collection and dusted off Little Deuce Coupe to a standing ovation.

We could have kept going, but we knew they had some other entertainment and activities planned for the night and we didn't want to step on any toes, so we took our bows and then exited the stage to mingle with the audience for a while. Again, what a fun group of folks! Many thanks to Pastor White and Pastor Don for the invitation and for their great support.

Seeking new music

We would like to make it known that we are seeking new and interesting pieces of music to add to our repertoire. We are looking for pieces that cover a wide range of styles, from sacred/gospel/spiritual to doo-wop to children's music to satirical/funny to contemporary/jazz. If there is anyone out there who has an original arrangement, or would like to create an original arrangement that they would like for us to perform, we'd love to hear from you.

Post-Christmas Blues

Now that the busy Christmas season is past and life is returning again to somewhat of a normal state, there comes the typical post-Christmas emotional let-down of sorts. We of MC6 were so busy this past December that the month simply flew by! We averaged 3-4 shows each week from Thanksgiving to Christmas, and now that Christmas is over we're not quite sure what to do with ourselves!

First and foremost, though, we want to thank all those who made this past holiday season such a success for us. We released our debut album at the beginning of December, and we'd like to thank Richard Talbot, of Talmage Studios and Euphony Sound Studio for helping us put the album together and get it ready in time for the holiday release. The CD has been a smashing success and we are very proud of what we accomplished in creating it. Now, if we could only sell more of them....

Special thankyou's go out to Darin & Jennifer Hughes for inviting us to open for Jon Schmidt at his annual Christmas concert. Thanks also to Jon for agreeing to share the stage with us for the night. He's a great talent and it was a real privilege to open up his show. That was a real treat for us.

We'd also like to thank the Desert Club Christmas Idea House committee and the LDS Temple Christmas Lights Concert organizers for allowing us to perform at their venues. It was a lot of fun to be a part of their events, and the crowds were awesome.

Lastly, we'd like to thank our many loyal fans who came out to see us perform, often multiple times. Your energy and enthusiasm are what make performing so much fun!

As we head into 2009, our focus now turns to getting back to and polishing our non-Christmas repertoire, as well as working on some new material. We have designs on producing a new album in the not-too-distant future featuring a collection of sacred hymns and spirituals, so we're starting to gather material and funding for that project as well.

May the new year bring you all much peace, happiness and success. Keep an eye out for our upcoming events, and come out to see us when you get a chance.

Opening for Jon Schmidt!

We are proud to announce that we have just accepted an invitation to be the opening performance for Jon Schmidt's Christmas concert on December 19th at Gilbert High School's auditorium!

Jon is a very accomplished pianist who has thrilled audiences all over the West for the past several years with his powerful, exhilarating sound. We are honored to have the opportunity to share the stage with him at next month's show.

The CD is finished!!

Wow! We thought this day would never come. We have been working on producing a CD for so long now, I can hardly remember when we started! But, at last, the long-awaited LP is complete.

We finished mixing the tracks last night and sent them off for mastering today. That means we should have freshly minted CDs in hand by Thanksgiving, and just in time for our Holiday concert schedule. Woo-hoo!

We are working now to set up a way to order a copy via this site. But until then, if you are interested in securing one of these "hot" items, just contact Jackson at the email address listed in the left-hand column and we'll shoot one off to you in a hurry. Desert Club Christmas House

We are very excited to announce that we have just confirmed our booking at the Desert Club Christmas Idea House Preview Gala Dinner and Auction to be held on December 4th at Stonebridge Manor in Mesa.

Desert Club, founded in 1946, is a non-profit women's service organization providing scholastic scholarships to students living in the East Valley and community grants to non-profit organizations serving women and children. Currently Desert Club has 45 active members and 112 "life" and "sustaining" members. Since 1958, Desert Club has hosted the annual Christmas Idea House where over the course of three days events are held at one or more beautifully decorated luxury homes. All of the proceeds from these events go to scholarships and community programs. Over the past fifty years, Desert Club's efforts have raised nearly two million dollars. The event is a class act and is a great way to get involved within the East Valley community during the holidays. We are pleased to have been invited to entertain during the Gala event.

Christmas album update

OK, so we have finished the recording process. We're so glad to be through that part, as it really is the hardest aspect of producing an album, although it's a lot of fun, too. It involves a lot of long, late nights singing the same song over, and over, and over again until we get it just right, or kill each other, whichever comes first. The close proximity and late hours lend to a bit of horsing around, but you have to keep it light or you'll simply go nuts! I can still hear those songs in my head and we finished in the studio 2 weeks ago!

The tracks are now in the mixing stage, and we plan to send them out for final mastering sometime within the next 7-10 days. It being a Christmas album puts us under the gun a bit as these need to be printed and ready for sale by mid-November. Keep your fingers crossed! More updates to come, so keep coming back!

Mesa Sister Cities Concert

On Sept 11th (last Thursday) we sang a handful of songs at the Mesa Sister Cities September 11th Concert, which was to commemorate the 9-11-01 terrorist attacks against the US and to honor those that died as well as the heroes that were "born" on that day.

Here are some clips from our performance. We started out with a medley of the military branch anthems - Dad, this one's for you. Hope you like it.

We then launched into some doo-wop with "People Get Ready"

Lastly, here's our rendition of Billy Joel's "For the Longest Time". Doesn't Paul sound great?

We had a fun time with the various groups that performed that night, and our sincere thanks to the Mesa Sister Cities program for honoring us with an invitation to be a part of their show.

Mesa Music & Arts Festival - May 31, 2008

As noted in the Upcoming Live Shows section of this page, we will be performing at the Mesa Family Music & Arts Festival, held on May 31st at the Mesa Convention Center.

We go on stage (the free Local Stage) at about 6:15 pm, so be sure to catch us. I would also highly recommend catching the pro acts of Eclipse, which is also a 6-part a cappella group - very tight - as well as Peter Breinholt, who simply rocks. They will be performing in the same afternoon session (starts at 3:30 pm), so you can knock out 2 birds with one stone, er, ticket.

Album update

Many ask us, "Do you guys have a CD I can buy?" Our answer is, painfully, "No, not at this time." But, we are working on one, so that's good news.

In fact, we've been hitting the studio on various occasions for the past 3 years, but have had a real struggle finding the right combination of equipment, experience, and professional acumen. We first tried The Salt Mine, in Mesa, AZ. Great facilities and equipment, but they are more geared toward rock-n-roll bands, and not so much to a cappella groups. Honestly, they did not know what to do with us!

Then we tried a few stints at Lamont Audio, in Gilbert, AZ. Lots of tracks put down over the course of several sessions, but we never felt like it was coming together the way we wanted. Unsure of what the problem was or how to fix it, we took a break from recording to get "back to the basics" and nail down our songs.

So we then tried Sound Tracks Studio, in Mesa, AZ. I think these guys were more in-tune with what we are trying to do, and we recorded and mixed about 5-6 tracks there last year. We will likely include some of these tracks on a future CD.

We spent a very long night this past January recording about 4 songs at the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences in Mesa, AZ as a mutual favor for a friend who was a student there. His final school project was to do a studio recording on his own, and we got to record for free. Great facility, great price, and awesome equipment (nicest we've worked with yet), but the expertise wasn't there, and we have yet still to see the finished product. Last I heard the guy has moved to San Francisco and is working in the recording industry there. I doubt we'll ever see those finished tracks. It was free, though, and a good experience for us.

Finally, we have now found a studio with great equipment, an attentive staff, and loads of experience with a cappella, and the result is some excellent work all around. Talmage Studios, in Gilbert, AZ is the place for us. In fact, Richard Talbot, the recording technician, is in an a vocal group of his own, so he understands the sound we are going for, and he is actually extremely helpful in helping us to achieve our optimal output. If we get "pitchy", he tells us right away, and we need that.

We have been working off and on at Talmage Studio since February. The trouble is being able to coordinate the schedules of 6 guys who have full-time jobs and large families (22 kids amongst the six of us, at last count!) as well as the budget for studio and mixing/mastering time. We have about 5 tracks completed so far, and are planning to get back to the studio again soon to complete the album. Our first CD will be a compilation of many of our favorite Christmas and holiday tunes, and this is appropriate as it will probably finally be ready in time for the holidays this year. We are also working on arrangements for an eventual gospel and hymns album to be produced next year (keeping fingers crossed!)

At any rate, keep an eye out for further announcements. I promise to keep you up to date with any new developments.

Festival of Trees

Yesterday, we kicked off our 2007 holiday schedule with a performance at the Festival of Trees fund raiser at the new Banner Gateway Hospital in Mesa, AZ. The crowd was pretty thin, mainly because the group in front of us cancelled at the last minute, so the scheduling changed somewhat. We did our best, however, and decided to use the venue as the perfect opportunity for a dress rehearsal for our other upcoming shows this season.

Phoenix Suns National Anthem

On March 15, 2007, MC6 was invited to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" at the Phoenix Suns vs Minnesota Timberwolves basketball game. The sound system wasn't the best, but what a rush! Definitely our biggest crowd to date.
